Some say laughter is good medicine, and I’m inclined to believe them. In a world full of angst and heartbreak, at times one needs to find a little humor in the midst of it. The Delicious Monster series explores levity in content and yet touches on the deeper themes of acceptance, the roles we play, and questions who we really are. In the safe places we call our “home” when no one is looking, who are we really?

I’m looking at interiors...ideas of home, and space - places where we rest, enjoy, eat...where families gather and celebrate, and the idea of friends who are willing to accept one another….I’m thinking about Ideas of family...siblings...the places of our past, the places we grew up in, and the places our families owned or lost…

This series departs from themes of isolation and loneliness, erasure and a loss of place. I wanted to imagine the idea of home - a safe place - in contrast to the displacement I feel in regards to Los Angeles. These pieces run against alienation and instead depict a a sense of belonging… I’m thinking about the idea of friendship, and who we feel at home with... I am asking: Who accepts us for who we are? Can we really be authentic in front of anyone else?
