A note about jello….

Jello appears throughout the work as both an element that grants passage through time and space - familiar and repeated - but also as stand-in for the monsters that appear... A sparkling, monstrous substance, technically edible yet made of the unthinkable, Jello is structural, yet temporal, a fitting summation of a vanishing past. This midcentury icon, possesses a unique ability to reveal interior and exterior simultaneously, this idea of inside and outside, with and without explored in these pieces. The idea of loss is central to the Someday, Maybe and Color of Shadows series where elements are removed again and again, and yet again….

Like the figures in Coping Mechanisms, the large jellos are presented without context, displayed and ready to be admired, dissected or devoured.
